This 180,000 s.f.,320 bed national teaching hospital was designed in collaboration with Partners In Health and the Haitian Ministry of Health.  The project includes an outpatient clinic, a women’s health outpatient clinic, a community health clinic focusing on malnutrition issues, women’s health inpatient clinic (79 beds) including labor/delivery wards and neonatal intensive care unit, surgery suite with 6 operating rooms, pharmacy depot, men’s, women’s and children’s wards accommodating 110 beds total, TB isolation ward, dental clinic, and administration center with large community meeting room.

Natural light and ventilation was considered carefully for each area of the hospital as were sun angles and roof overhangs to maximize both of these features.  Communal healing garden courtyards are a focus for the ward areas. Large open air, covered waiting rooms are utilized for efficient patient flow as well as infection control at all of the outpatient clinic service areas.

Solar panels, taller ceilings in wards to assist in reducing infection, UV lights to reduce transmission of disease, local iron work and wood will be used to achieve the best possible environment using green techniques.
