A 1600 s.f. apartment renovation located on the top floor of a six flat. The apartment was reconstructed, taking all walls down to the original stud framing. The owner requested that the architect, also a painter, incorporate colors reminiscent of the palette from her paintings. Due to the excessive and awkward space provided by the front bay in the living room, a polycarbonate and fabric wall was designed to separate it from the main living room space
The bay space was designed to accommodate an office and meditation space for the client. The screen wall provides a physical separation affording privacy without compromising the light and sense of nature provided by the series of bay windows. The living space contains only a low table from China and floor pillows for seating. A marigold colored wall with restored original stained glass windows features an original painting by the architect that was commissioned by the owner. | | | Location | Chicago, Illinois | | Design | 2000 | | Construction | 2000 | | Design Principal | Ann Clark | | Photography | Alyce Henson | | | | | | | | | | | | |
